Are big job sites enough to fetch your dream jobs in the field of Software

When people are looking for a job mostly they login to naukri.com, create an account and post their CV online. They start getting calls from consultants or recruitment agencies who keep forwarding their resume to different companies. People get an idea for the pay from the recruiters and start applying.

This structure works for 80% of the population but not for everybody.

Whats the problem with this approach ?

It may get you a job, but not the work or environment you might be looking for. You might join a company, later to realise you don't like the work or culture and you might stick a year or two for the pay you got and the cycle would start again.

Many people still prefer this approach because it gives them a good raise every two years. But with the economy slowing down substantially this thing cannot continue for long and eventually this approach would hinder more then work as a solutions. If you switch jobs frequently ultimately your growth stops and you mostly remain at the same position or same technolgoy (if you are in software).

So how do you get your dream job ?

Now with the use of Social media and various other sites and your friend circle its more then easy to find out.

1. First figure out the thing that interests you - money , work, culture (work from home / free food / flexible work hours / onsite etc etc)

2. Figure out companies that might have a similar culture - read blog posts on companies, check with your friends who work for them. Sometimes the companies culture might be good but a particular project or team has a bad culture due to bad management. You can get to know such things only when you talk to somebody who works there.

3. Find out people who work for such companies on LinkedIn, Facebook and see if you can approach somebody and talk to them (believe me it will work wonders)

4. Apply directly through LinkedIn (as you can directly approach company HRs) or ask consultants to refer you to those companies only
